  • Walmart Inc. aimed at delivering a seamless shopping experience to its customers by combining the power of its forte - stores - with digital innovation. Digital retail comprised of mobile commerce applications and e-commerce websites 
  • In June 2016, the company formed an alliance with JD.com, Inc., along with the sale of certain assets relating to their e-commerce operations in China called Yihaodian to JD. The assets included the Yihaodian brand, application, and website  
  • In September 2016, the company acquired a US-based e-commerce company - Jet.com, Inc. The acquisition came in line with the company’s overall strategy to accelerate e-commerce growth 
  • Online Grocery became available in more than 600 stores, offering customers convenience in shopping 
  • Innovations such as pharmacy express lanes and Walmart Pay had already come in, making the checkout process both fast and easy
  • Had begun offering free 2-day shipping on over 2 million items, which allowed customers to place an order of $35 or above on Walmart.com and have the ordered items delivered within a span of two days to their doorstep, without any membership
