Q1 2025: Publix sales up 5.1%, comps +4%; net earnings down on unrealized market losses; expansion continues with 6 new stores, 48 in pipeline.

Publix delivered a robust first‑quarter sales performance, but results were mixed: net sales grew 5.1 % YoY, while comparable store momentum eased by roughly one percentage point. GAAP net earnings declined from the prior year, pressured by unrealized equity‑market losses and the Easter holiday shift into Q2 2025 vs Q1 2024.

Store Network

Publix opened six supermarkets in Q1, 2025, three in Florida, two in Virginia, and one in South Carolina, and kept the momentum going post‑quarter with a 54,964‑sq‑ft large‑format store that debuted on May 8, 2025, at Palm Beach Gardens’ Promenade Plaza, marking the second new Publix in Palm Beach County within a week.

Key Highlights

Each build follows the 55–65 k sq ft prototype as highlighted in our earlier article “Publix Q4 2024: Strong Sales Growth, Store Expansions, and Strategic Investments”  featuring expanded foodservice, indoor/outdoor seating, and other experiential elements designed to deepen shopper engagement. On the digital front, the Lakeland Technology Hub is progressing rapidly strengthening Publix’s omnichannel capabilities.
